Subject: Native Tales
These tales are from H. R. Schoolcraft's collection...a man not known for his accuracy in reporting Native culture. His writings are however, one of the few contemporary sources of Native Culture that we have. Schoolcraft was an Indian agent, Geologist, and Ethnologist in the early 1800s whose first wife was Ojibwe/Scots-Irish. As such his writings on Native Culture were vast, and came from first hand experience. But he had problems with the organization of data, and had a tendency to fabricate things. As a contemporary source, from a 19th Century European perspective, these stories are invaluable. However, as accurate Native Teachings they must be studied with a healthy degree of skepticism. If you are honestly seeking Native stories, as they have been passed down the generations, look elsewhere.

Subject: Disappointment
How disappointing that the author calls American Indian stories "Fairy Tales". These are stories not Fairy Tales like Cinderella or Snow White. It is obvious that the author did little if any research with the American Indians. Not all Indians lived in wigwams. From what tribe are these stories, Cherokee, Choctaw, Zuni, Lakota? I stopped listening shortly after the second chapter began!
